How To Make A Fire With Matches Or A Lighter

　　Building a fire sounds easy, right? It might be a little harder than you think. This blog provides the basics on how to make a fire with matches and a butane lighter.

　　It's always a good idea to put both of these on you. If you're in cold weather, the wheels on the lighter may freeze, rendering it useless. If you are in very wet or wet weather, the matches may become difficult to strike.

　　Did you know you can use a match twice? that's right. twice. Start by tearing the match from bottom to top, being careful once you reach the top of the match. Now you have two matches to work with.

　　Step 1: Control Your Fire

　　The first thing you have to do is find a place to start your fire. For best results, try to find a location that is not affected by the wind. Clear anything that might be in the way. After that, it's important to make sure your fire is under control. Grab some rocks and build a ring where your fire is. While this won't stop the sparks from flying, it will help you focus the rest of the flame in one place.

　　Step 2: Light Your Fire

　　1.) Using about three thumb-sized sticks, create a small triangular platform for your Tinder.

　　2.) Make your tinder into a bag similar to a bird's nest.

　　3.) Place the tinder bundle on top of the triangular platform.

　　4.) Take the pencil-sized kindling and start stacking it on top of the tinder.

　　5.) Using your match or butane lighter, place the flame under the tinder and light. (There should be a small space between the ground firelighters where the base of the triangular platform is.

　　6.) Once the flame starts to form, blow it lightly as it grows.

　　7.) Keep adding bigger wrist-sized sticks to keep you on fire.

　　8.) Do not use a stick that is too large to put out a fire.
